Without getting too metaphysical or allegorical - the branch hanging over the uncertainty of the waters of the river/lake represents the course of one's life & the nebulous backdrop across the water - the ambiguity of what's out there. Either that or it's just a bare bough on a tree overhanging a body of water. Either way I still like it!
