I saw this photo on the cover of the paper, and I thought it was so poignant, odd and terrible, due, of course, to the mask worn by the woman. It's a burn victem mask, but due to the contortions of fabric, it almost looks like a twisted kind of smile on the mouth. All in all, a very creepy, but memorable photo.
I hear this woman (who's only in her mid-20s) is doing better now. There was a story about her on the BBC last week. She's become the iconic image of those horrible bombings.
This harrowing image has become embedded in my recollection of July 7th. This picture more so than the security camera shot of "the four men with back-packs" is what will remain with me for an indeterminate period.
